a) 4x-5=8
4x=13
x=13/4
b) 3x-11+2x=5x-4
5x-11=5x-4
impossible
c) 5x+2=3x+6
2x=4
x=2
d) 6(x+2)=-x-4
6x+12=-x-4
7x=-16
x=-16/7
